I'm guessing the tree is pretty darn old. It is part of a nature preserve in Malibu (Santa Monica Mountains) and as a matter of fact it IS rooted near a stream! :) (I took this picture over Memorial Day Weekend).
That is a beautiful tree, and I agree what strength to stand strong though everything I am sure it has seen, would it not be awesome if it could talk and tell it's stories held with in the branches!
